2A- Bug List

When my headphones get so tangled that I cannot fix them.
Why it exists: Sometimes I'm lazy and after a night of studying I throw them in my backpack instead of putting them away neatly.

When Starbucks is out of small straws and I have to use a venti (large) straw for a grande (medium) drink.
Why it exists: Grande is the most popular size, which in turn means that the grande straws are the first to go.

When I forget my umbrella
Why it exists: In Florida rain showers are pretty common, but that doesn’t stop my scatter brain from forgetting it in the morning and having to run in a thunderstorm to my next class, while trying to not get soaked.

When you change an answer on an exam and the first one was correct.
Why it exists: People second guess themselves, me included.

When your late to class and the person in front of you walks so slow with no way to get around them.
Why it exists: There are many people that just walk as if they had all the time in the world to get someplace. That would be nice, however, my schedule is so packed that I am usually in a hurry to get to where I am going so not to be late.

Pop up ads when i'm trying to complete an assignment in a limited time frame.
Why it exists: Marketing executives understand that pop up ads are a quick and relatively inexpensive way to get their products name out to millions of people.

Purchasing expensive textbooks for class that don't ever get used
Why it exists: Professors don’t inform us if the textbook is necessary and when I find out it isn't, I have already purchased it. (Now I stick to renting)

When my phone or computer dies when I’m about to do something
Why it exists: Sometimes when I go to Marston, I forget my charger and my computer or phone will die at the most important time. It is Murphy’s law.

When people throw trash out their car window
Why it exists: People can’t wait for a trash can and it's more convenient to just toss it out the window.

How much food the dining hall wastes.
Why it exists: When I’m in Broward, the conveyor belt is full of uneaten food. This happens because peoples eyes are bigger than their stomach.

Being on hold, on the telephone, for long periods of time.
Why it exists:  Companies are trying to save money so the cut the amount of customer service reps that they hire.

When I  get a five degree burn from touching the steering wheel, sitting on the seat, and buckling myself in.
Why it exists: We live in Florida and having a car parked outside is bound to overheat.

When I misplace my keys or phone
Why it exists: This happens to me ALL THE TIME. I forget where I put my keys when I get home and it definitely makes me late for the next days events.

When I forget my password and I’m locked out of accounts
Why it exists: I honestly feel like I just forgot to write them down because I think I’ll remember them. When in reality, there are a lot of passwords I have to remember.

When telemarketers try to sell me life insurance
Why it exists: It is a form of personal selling.

When the drain gets clogged
Why it exists: Hair or product goes down the drain and clumps together.

Politicians trashing each other.
Why it exists: In today’s world, bad news makes the headlines.   If the politicians bash each other they get more media attention. It also diverts the voters attention from the issues at hand to the trash talk.

Running out of gas
Why it exists: This actually happened to me in high school. I was meeting friends at Chick-fil-a after school and when I was leaving my gas tank was on E. (Honestly though can you think of a better place to be trapped at) I just was so busy with classes and extracurriculars that I didn’t notice the low fuel light was on.

When it is Sunday and all I crave is Chick-fil-A nuggets.
Why it exists:  The founder of Chick-fil-a's philosophy was that everyone should have a day off once a week to worship God, spend time with family or friends, or just have a free day to themselves.

Waiting in line for a ride at a Disney, Universal, or similar park.
Why it exists: In my opinion, the parks allow too many people in therefore causing long lines for the most popular rides. People wait up to 3 hours in line to ride a 5 minute attraction ride.

Getting on the wrong subway in NYC and ending up in Brooklyn when I wanted to be at Times Square.
Why it exists: The subway system is literally so confusing and everytime I go to New York I just get more and more lost.

Reflection: It was hard to come up with ideas at first, but once I started, it got a lot easier. I would find inspiration by talking to friends, thinking of past struggles, or even simply walking around on campus.

  1. Hi Sara,
I related to the vast majority of your bugs and like you mentioned before its just Murphys law, when your in a hurry it seems like everyone else has slowed down, or when you have an important meeting to get to and you seem to have lost your keys, ugh hate those bugs. The bug that is one that always bothers me is the double guessing myself on tests and then at the end of the test seeing that your first answer was correct, which then leads to you thinking "what if?" . What if i hadn't change my answer what would my score have been, I believe Ent 3003 will help us with being more confident in ourselves, to take the risk , instead of second guessing and then years down the line thinking "what If?". I also did a similar thing to you in finding my bugs in that, I know always voice my complaints but i had a hard time remembering them so through the next couple of days every time something bugged me i took note of it for this assignment. The only thing I would say for the future is to elaborate a little more on the "Whys?" of some of your bugs like the telemarketer one for example.

  2. Hi Sara,
Great Bug List. I noticed that your list like mine is mostly based on things that waste your time. Unfortunately, that seems to be one of the things that we can’t create is more time. I found the best way to give myself more time is to slow down. It used to be that when I’d go into the house I’d have ten things on my mind. I’d put my keys down and forget where I put them, I’d set my phone down and forget where I put it etc.. When I went to leave I’d be in a frenzy trying to find everything. To slow myself down I put a bowl in my kitchen for my keys and wallet and I put my phone charger next to them. Now I know where they are all the time and they don’t stress me out when I leave.

  3. Hey Sara,
I relate very hard to the NYC subway comment but I'm usually upset when I end up in Times Square and I am trying to get to Brooklyn. I relate to many of your comments. I have just now started this semester to put my keys in a bowl in my room as soon as I get back just because I get so frustrated. Great job though! Being on hold on the phone also bugs me. I just think there could definitely be a better solution for those kinds of situations.
