Hi Sara;
ReplyDeleteOverall, I find that your post does an excellent job of identifying local opportunities. I specifically find impressive the effect that an off-season has on an entire city. As you mention, the off-tourist season of Panama City Beach not only affect the business owners—who have to reduce hours or shut down completely— but it also affects their families and the economy as a whole. In the same way, I find it striking the effect that a red tide even in low concentration has on an entire population around this problem. As you mention, and I agree, a red tide even in small quantities is a problem because it can “bloom and expand” and ends up not only declining the ocean life, but it also impacts the entire population around by causing respiratory irritation. Although I agree with you on the above points, I would expand on who the problem affects at, for example, your number four. Indeed the problem is that many Puerto Rican’s families cannot afford a home because their vouchers expired. However, this problem affects not only Puerto Ricans evacuees but also concerns all the people involved in the decision to put a deadline in the vouchers. For example, judges with different opinions about the problem, FEMA facing a lawsuit from the lawyer with LatinoJustice PRLDEF and LatinoJustice itself, the states with large numbers of evacuees families, and President Trump blamed by the U.S. Rep. Darren Soto and Soto himself. Go Gators!
Hi Sara, Good story on the red tide effecting Panama City Beach. I live on the west coast and we have been dealing with the effects of the Red tide here for months. It is hurting our local businesses, tourism and recreational boating. Some people have seen the opportunity by organizing events to get people down to the beaches to support the local businesses.
