9A-Testing the Hypothesis

From the last assignment, I know that my who can be greatly expanded, so in this round of interviews I  interviewed people that could use this product for various reasons.

Interview #1
I first interviewed someone being affected by Florence. Its hard for her and her family to leave the house because of the flood and they lost their power, making it hard on her to supply the food for her kids and husband. After explaining my product to her she loved it, telling me that it would perfect for large storms or naturals disaster where electricity is cut out.

Interview #2
I interviewed someone who is a sports mom from my hometown. She usually takes her son and his friends on long road trips to baseball tournaments and such. She explained that she hated stopping for fast food and would love this alternative for the car ride or when she is sitting on the bleaches.

Interview #3
I interviewed someone at my mother's work. She works at a hospital and the employee I interviewed explained to me that this would be fantastic for a cup of coffee.  "I could reheat it throughout the day whenever I please, there is nothing I hate more than cold coffee and maybe I wouldn't spend all my money at Starbucks."

Interview #4
I went to the local homeless shelter in my hometown and asked if this product would be beneficial to give out. They loved the idea. People in the community donate canned beans and soups to the shelter, not putting into consideration that most people are unable to heat the contents. I also discussed what would happen to the cup when the heater went out. We both came up with a solution that they could return the cups to the shelter and recycle them when a new heater is replaced.

Interview #5
I interviewed a college student. He loved the idea and claimed it would be perfect in a small dorm with no kitchen access. "I can easily rekindle my broke ramen noodle obsession" Sounds good to me.

Who is in: The homeless, sport families, employees, college students, etc.
what the need is: A convenient way to heat food and keep it warm on the go.
Why the need exist: For convenient reasons because a kitchen is not always accessible.

Who is not: People that prefer home cooked meals.
what the need is not:something that can replace a home cooked meal.
Alternative explanation: If someone never traveled or preferred to cook or get take out for their meals, this would not be the product for them.

  1. Hi Sara,
Good job on testing the hypothesis. After reading about your interview I came up with another great use for your product. People who plan for survivalist issues like power outages and any crisis that will impact food supply often stock up on MRE’s or food storage. The way that most cook them is to have these packages that you set on fire and cook over them. If your cup got hot enough to cook an MRE in water, it would be a great survivalist item.

  2. Hi Sara;
Overall, I believe you did an excellent job interviewing people who have the unmet need you have identified. However, it seems that you diverged from the assignment proposal, which was to find specific people who fall outside the boundary (even though they share essential features with the others in your opportunity). I see that you did mention these individuals who are outside the boundary at the end of your assignment. Good job on that. Still, for the future, I would focus more on these people, that is, on what the assignment proposes us to focus. Go Gators!

  3. Hey Sara,

I watched your pitch as well and I keep seeing more and more potential in your product. Great job with this assignment. I believe I did it on more people that could benefit from the idea as well although I though I read the assignment over well. Over all great job!
