11A-Idea Napkin
1. You?
I am a Telecommunications major with a minor in Innovation. Through my minor, I have learned a lot regarding the process of thinking about problems people face and innovating an idea. The minor has also enabled me to learn different pitching tactics through working with events such as catalyst. These concepts I learned can greatly contribute to the success of the product.
2. What are you offering to costumers?
The product is a reusable stainless steel cup with a heater on the bottom of it to heat the contents instantly. This will allow the homeless or even busy individuals the ability to heat soups, stews, coffee, tea, etc. instantly without kitchen access.
3. Who are you offering it to?
Homeless shelters, busy soccer moms, a day at the office, camping trips, road trips, the possibilities are endless.With that being said, what all this costumers have in common is simply convenience. The convenience of not needing access to a kitchen when on the go.
4. Why do they care?
Convenience is a big reason people will value and care about this product. Just being able to heat something on the go will be appealing to many busy parents, employees, etc.
5. what are your core competencies?
Studying Innovation makes me stand out because I can use all the skills I learned in my classes towards this product, whether that be perfecting the pitch and adding elements to the product to make it more effective.
I definitely feel like all these elements fit together due to the fact that convenience is the universal need for people all over the word. If it makes the costumer's life easier, they are definitely more inclined to purchase it. A weaker part of my business plan is still needing to figure out how to recycle the cups when the heater goes out and come up with a detailed plan of where a costumer brings the cup to get a new one.

Hello Sara;
ReplyDeleteI believe that the idea of a cup that heats its contents instantly to be great. Especially, as you mention, for customers who need to warm something on the go. Before I was an online student, I spent the entire day driving to and on campus. I had an insulated coffee mug that I brought from home to college, but it only kept the coffee hot for a few hours. Thus, I always ended up having to buy coffee on a daily basis, which was expensive. I believe your idea would be a perfect solution to the problem I had! For the future, keep on coming up with great ideas. Go Gators!
Hi Sara, great job on your Idea napkin. I like your idea and I think your product is a great idea. At the end of your core competencies you stated that you were still struggling with the system of how to recycle the cups when the heater goes out. I would consider the maintenance or replacement to be a separate business model. If the product is a success I would think it would be easy to enter the market place with a solution to replacing cups for homeless people or places that would change the batteries for people.
ReplyDeleteHello Sara,
ReplyDeleteI believe your realization that you are selling convenience, not just heating bowl, will help you very much in the long run. What you need to do, is develop why this convenience is important to customers. Then you can look for which of those you want to target first. For example, you say it could be marketed to students but also to homeless shelters. Both are very different customers and have very different buying and informational channels. You will need to choose one first for your product to succeed.
