26A – Celebrating Failure
I'm a Telecommunications News major and last year as a freshman I decided to audition for an anchor positions for the five o'clock news at the news station on campus. I gave it my best go and they told me they generally don't except freshman, but that it was a good practice opportunity. I tried to audition again this semester and still didn't receive a position. Though upset, I feel like this prepared me for the real world. I am not always going to get every opportunity and this helped step back and evaluate how to improve my performance. Everyone around me was supportive and told me to just try again next year. I definitely feel like I'm more inclined to take risks because of this class because I got to see and understand the beauty of a mistake or failure. Making mistakes and getting feedback in this class made my product better, just like doing the same thing in the real world improves my abilities.
Hi Sara;
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that you shared your experience with failure. I find it inspiring that you could use a mistake to find a way to improve your performance. I also find it encouraging how, in the midst of not getting the position you wanted, you were able to acknowledge the fact that people around you were supportive. I hope you keep finding ways to improve your abilities. Go Gators!
Hi Sara,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your experience with your audition. I’m sure each experience must make you more prepared for the next challenge. I don’t typically see not having a successful outcome as having a failure. I always believe that everything happens for a reason and down the road we’ll be more likely to understand what that reason was. I also believe if we keep directing our energy towards accomplishing something we’ll eventually attain success.
