27A – Reading Reflection No. 3

1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?

The author talks about his experience in his professional career and compiled them in this book.He discusses how to maintain energy, through exercising and eating healthy, how to learn from mistakes, and discussed his take on topics such as goals vs systems and deciding vs wanting. I thought it was a very interesting and fun book, navigating hacks to a successful career.

2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?

The author discusses failure in the book and how to move on from them and grow. This goes hand in hand with what we do in this class because ever great entrepreneur is going to fail sometime. This is why the class we get feeback from peers so we can strengthen our product and service. The celebrating failures post we did was a great way to evaluate a fail outside this class.

3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?

He explained that if your job doesn't excite you enough, start inventing your times in side projects in addition. He discusses how a side project should motivate you and give you energy. Have students list side projects they are passionate about outside of school or work. Have them fully develop two or three and keep a log of the process for a week. This would show students how when you are passionate about a project, it can be done quickly ad effectively, and who knows it may even be the next big  venture.

4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?

One thing in this book that shocked me was when he talked about goals. I always thought goals were a great thing to set and try to achieve  I mean everyone strives for their goals. However, this author explains that goals are for losers. He explains that having goals puts you at a constant defeat. He adds that developing systems is a much better way to reach an objective. Ask yourself how to reach this specific goal and develop a system of how to get there. Doing the smaller tasks in the goal gives you a sense of accomplishment and motivation, whereas a short lived goal results in you losing motivation.

I believe your post does an excellent job reflecting on your read. You seemed to grasp some great advice and insights from it. Especially, I like that it discusses how to sustain energy, through exercising and a healthy diet, and how to learn from failures. I believe these are fundamental aspects that we should all consider, not only in our personal lives but in our entrepreneurial lives. Go Gators!
