9A-Testing the Hypothesis

From the last assignment, I know that my who can be greatly expanded, so in this round of interviews I  interviewed people that could use this product for various reasons. Interview #1 I first interviewed someone being affected by Florence. Its hard for her and her family to leave the house because of the flood and they lost their power, making it hard on her to supply the food for her kids and husband. After explaining my product to her she loved it, telling me that it would perfect for large storms or naturals disaster where electricity is cut out. Interview #2 I interviewed someone who is a sports mom from my hometown. She usually takes her son and his friends on long road trips to baseball tournaments and such. She explained that she hated stopping for fast food and would love this alternative for the car ride or when she is sitting on the bleaches. Interview #3 I interviewed someone at my mother's work. She works at a hospital and the employee I interviewed explained...

7A-Testing the Hypothesis

1. With homelessness at an all time rise, I decided to stick with my idea of a reusable stainless steel heating cup. 2. The Who: The homeless The what: The homeless are unable to cook or heat food. The why: This is because of the lack of kitchen appliances that they have access to. 3.  Hypothesis Testing Who: There are certainly others that have this need to heat food on the go, whether that be a busy soccer mom on the way to a tournament or camping scouts. what: I don't think there are any boundaries because this product can be used by anyone, but specifically would be usefully for the homeless due to the lack of access to appliances. why: The why I identified above is not broad enough to fill the why for everyone. Busy moms, road trips, camping, they all could have access to kitchen appliances at some point, but not at that specific moment, adding to this products convenience. 4. Throughout the interviews I've conducted, I noticed that they really helped me broade...

8A- Solving The Problem

The problem I have chosen to tackle is the one dealing with homelessness and natural relief help and support, with the use of my product of a reusable heating cup. Generally with the homeless, shelters give them can goods with no way to heat it up, though I realized with the last exercise that this product can be used by numerous people for numerous reasons. The product is a stainless steel cup that is reusable and has a self heater on the bottom, making it convenient for a day at the office or any kind of trip. With the business plan of buy one give one to the community, people are able to donate one to a cause benefitting homelessness or a natural disaster just buy buying the product for themself. One other addition I was thinking about was adding reusable silverware folded in the lid of the cup.

6A- Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulator Trends

Economic 1.  "Residents and Businesses Prepare to Take a Hit From Hurricane Florence" https://www.nbcnews.com/business/economy/residents-businesses-prepare-take-hit-hurricane-florence-n908826 As with most major storms or hurricanes, opportunities exist because millions of dollars of damage occur. This will affect homeowners, as well as, business owners.  There will be opportunities for businesses, outside of the storm area, to help rebuild houses, roads, business and anything else that is damaged by the storm. FEMA will probably be called in to provide temporary shelter for the homeless due to their homes getting damaged.  Utility companies from other states will come to get utilities working for those who have lost power, water, or gas. I am familiar with these opportunities because Florida’s governor called a state of emergency with Hurricane Irma. People lost their homes, work places, and even family members. People with businesses from all over the USA came to...

5A- Identifying Local Opportunities

1.  "Red Tide Detected off Panama City Beach"-  The News Herald http://www.newsherald.com/news/20180912/red-tide-detected-off-panama-city-beach The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commision have detected low quantities of red tide in Panama City Beach due to dead fish being washed up on shore Sunday. They are still unsure about the sudden red tide, but speculation is it is because of Tropical Storm Gordon. The problem is that red tide could bloom and expand on the Gulf Coast. This affects everyone because ocean life could decline, while respiratory infection could increase. 2. "Local Red Cross, First Responders Heading North for Florence" - WJHG http://www.wjhg.com/content/news/Local-Red-Cross-First-Responders-heading-north-for-Florence-493104391.html Nineteen people and three emergency response vehicles from the North Florida Red Cross are heading to the Carolines to provide additional support for victims. The problem is that the states affected are understaffed...

4A- Forming An Opportunity Belief

My opportunity belief sprung out of a belief that is on my bug list. I was exploring the food waste at Broward Dining and then branched out to continue thinking of the waste in everyday life. I thought about plastic or foam cup waste and what I could do regarding that problem. Another major problem most cities encounter, especially Gainesville, is homelessness. The stainless steel cup isn't just reusable, but has a heater of the bottom to heat, soups, stews, or even coffee. The unmet need is waste and how donations for homeless are normally soups or beans that need to be heated up. Waste prevention and a portable self heater does not only benefit the homeless, but everyday people as well. This need for a waste alternative has always existed, but recently has gotten a lot worse. Now people are trying to use more reusable water bottles, but so many plastic bottles are still sold every year. The customer base is everyone. The cup could be used for a road trip, campi...

3A- My Story

Image
I have always been a pretty creative kid, writing stories, coming up with new ideas, and always being curious about the world. I never thought those simple traits I had would do anything for me, and truthfully I had never thought about doing anything using those abilities. That is until I got my UF acceptance letter and it was into a program called the Innovation Academy. Last year, as a freshman, I had my first IA class where we had to design a children's toy that encourages learning. During the Summer semester, my team and I competed in an event called Catalyst, where we had to come up with a product that benefited biodiversity. It was kind of like a Shark Tank event, where we pitched our ideas to judges and guests. I hope through this class I continue growing t hrough my ideas to make myself a better innovator. 2A- Bug List

When my headphones get so tangled that I cannot fix them. Why it exists: Sometimes I'm lazy and after a night of studying I throw them in my backpack instead of putting them away neatly. When Starbucks is out of small straws and I have to use a venti (large) straw for a grande (medium) drink. Why it exists: Grande is the most popular size, which in turn means that the grande straws are the first to go.        When I forget my umbrella Why it exists: In Florida rain showers are pretty common, but that doesn’t stop my scatter brain from forgetting it in the morning and having to run in a thunderstorm to my next class, while trying to not get soaked. When you change an answer on an exam and the first one was correct. Why it exists: People second guess themselves, me included. When your late to class and the person in front of you walks so slow with no way to get around them. Why it exists: There are many people that just walk as if they had all the time in the ...
